I registered my cat Boris with this vet and going to have my first visit this Saturday - general check-up and discuss neutering. The lady on the phone was friendly, but all the other vets that I phoned were quite similar and provided similar information about vaccination, neutering etc. The reviews on this website are mixed, so I am currently not sure whether this is a good choice. I will place my review here after I visit...Watch this space...

Wish to change my original review

Service

I first reviewed this vet in January 2009 when I was horrified by the cost of the visit. In fact after speaking to people using other vets, the fees was very fair, and my wife told me she had asked the vet to also prescribe worming tablets and something for the cat's bald spots when making the appointment, something I was unaware of at the time. As our cat has become increasingly old, it is clear that this vet practice does provide outstanding service and achieves that rare mix of professionalism and compassion. They have told us about various treatments and likely outcomes, and the cost involved, and have also advised on pain management and letting nature take its course until the cat's quality of life diminishes to the point where we have to take a difficult decision. While I was there a woman arrived with cats from a local charity, and said how grateful they were to have the support of the P G Andre team, which made me feel even more humble and I hereby eat my original words in that review. I would prefer to remove my original review but the touchrichmond system doesn't seem to allow it.

Have improved so much under new management

I used this vet for many years, then had two bad experiences, so moved to another vet. When that vet became Medivet and I couldn't get my preferred vet, I asked friends in the area for recommendations, and everyone recommended P G Andre. I am so glad I went back. It has been bought out and has new vets and new management. They couldn't have been more helpful and the treatment has been excellent. The premises also looks spruced up and much of the equipment updated. I only wish I could take off my previous review because it was based on the previous owner and management. I would definite recommend PG Andre Richmond Vets now.

Refreshingly excellent service

I recently moved to Richmond with my family and our pets, and when I asked my neighbours to recommend a good local Vet, they all said we should go to PG Andre's. We had our first visit there yesterday, and I totally understand why the recommendations were made! We were able to park for free, we received such a warm welcome from the reception staff, we were seen on time, and the vet was friendly, thorough and above all excellent with our old Spaniel and 2 cats. He seemed to have a genuine love for animals, and it is the first time our dog actually wanted to stay at the vets! Prices were cheaper than others we had researched in the area. I will join my neighbours in recommending this practice 100%

I've used this practice for 20 years and will continue for the next 20 years....how anyone can say they are expensive and non caring is beyond belief. Mr Andre may have retired but Tim has more than filled his boots and carried on with the caring legacy that many vets fail to have.

Varying results with this practice

I have 2 cats and a dog and I have used this practice for several years, although I am now using another. It really does depend on which vet you get at P Andre's. The competence varies greatly between the different vets. They have an associated practice at Twickenham. The vet prices are probably only a little higher than average, but they do really push expensive treatments. If they recommend a long term medication for your pet. Get the prescription and buy it online from a reputable supplier. It works out much cheaper. Nurses are caring. Premises could do with a good deep clean.

Very happy doggy!

I have recently had to take my lab to PG Andre's due to a skin condition that she had developed, both the vet and nurse that saw Bonnie were helpul, knowledgable and totally put my mind at rest. Condition was diagnosed and treatment advised, resulting in a happy itch free dog! Some of these reviews suggest that prices were high, I have recently moved to this area and have had dealing with other vets throughout the country for many years and i find PG Andre's charges perfectly reasonable. I recommend this practice 100%

Would not recommend

Nurses are polite, front office staff friendly, but vets can be rude, and they are not good vets. I would agree that the prices are much similar than others in the area, but the focus is on selling expensive add-ons, foods, atomisers, etc which greatly increases the costs to owners. They also charge a consultation fee when dispensing flea treatment, which is unfair as they are already making a good markup on the medication. Their basic vet care is mediocre at best. I would question any treatment they suggest, particularly if it involves an x-ray or extensive medical treatment. Get a second opinion before agreeing. I used them for over 12 years, then changed in 2008 when my cat died unde their care, and they charged £300 for general anaethestic that killed him while attempting an x-ray that subsequently I was told, was not required as he did not have the problem they originally diagnosed. I did not want to lose another cat to such incompetence and I am much happier with another local Richmond vet.

Kind & Caring

I have used this practice for as long as i can remember, yes prices have gone up but so has everything else. As to being misdiagnosed , complained by Jui T, some doctors also make this mistake which can be fatal. I have found ALL the VETS & NURSES to be very helpful & compassionate when we have lost our dogs/cats. I have never had problems so will carry on recommending. as I trust their judgement 100 percent.

Not great with cats

Service

Male vet, Tim, can be very brusque and is definitely not a great cat vet. Misdiagnosed problem, resulting in a lengthy expensive treatment which made cat worse. Took cat to another vet who correctly diagnosed problem and cat now recovered. Perhaps they are better with dogs or other animals, but I definitely wouldn't recommend this practice is you have a cat.

Very expensive Richmond Vet, not nearly as good as it used to be

Service

Quality

Charges almost £30 for a 2 min consultation for a flea treatment renewal, plus the cost of the flea treatment. Unfortunately good flea treatments are only sold by Vets (and ebay), however most vets do this consultation free of charge. He also tries to sell lots of overpriced products when they are not required. This used to be a great veterinary practice, but has really gone downhill in recent years. It's less about veterinary care, and more about merchandising. I would definitely not recommend, and would not use again.
