When i was 18 i did a 5 month unpaid work placement . whilst i was there i really enjoyed looking after the cats and dogs. the pens are in terrific condition and the staff are really friendly :) ideally i would live a job there again and i hope to be successful especially with the summer months coming up :)

Charlie my cat was left in the supposed good hands of Haven on 18/7/08. On collecting him on 26/7/08 he was placed into the carrier by the owner who said that he had ate well all week and was absolutely fine. But when I released Charlie from the carrier at home it was obvious that he had lost a lot of weight. Furthermore, on cuddling him I found a lump on the back of his head approx 1 inch high. I immediately rang Haven and spoke to the owner who said that Charlie must have lost weight due to stress and that she was sorry they hadn't noticed the lump but that she would speak to the cat carer. This was unhelpful as I was left with a very poorly cat who would have been ill for days at that stage and now had an urgent need for treatment. Whilst Haven say that this should have been noticed by them earlier in the week, they were not willing to cover the cost of treatment (which was now subject to an emergency out of hours fee). When I suggested that they should cover the cost of the treatment whilst they waited for the insurance claim to be processed (insurance was not mentioned by them until I had spent 15 minutes on the phone discussing the situation) I was told that they wouldn't cover the cost as Charlie was not injured whilst in their care. They eventually refused to speak with me or even help at all unless I stopped complaining about the lack of care. The vet says that Charlie was underweight and had a temperature as well as an abscess which they state should have been noticed by Haven. It's interesting that the owner of haven claims that the animals in their care get fuss and attention daily yet they fail to spot such an obvious lump which was instantly noticed by me.
