About The Living Forest

Since starting the Living Forest Limited we have endeavoured to create a company that has a friendly and professional approach to all our work however small.

Because the Living Forest Limited is a relatively small company we feel we can offer a more personal service to our customers. Our clients range from many large estate owners such as the National Trust down to the smallest of domestic customers.

The Living Forest Limited is fully insured and qualified in all of the tasks we undertake.

We take a modern and a traditional approach to our work and are conservation minded if or when the situation arises, i.e. the extraction of timber by tractor and heavy horse.

History

Having completed training in arboriculture and countryside skills Michael joined the National Trust in 1983 as a tree surgeon/wood man.

After 14 years service with the National Trust, 6 years of which were as head forester for Kent and East Sussex and the remaining 2 years were as head warden for the Weald & Marsh areas he chose to move on to woodlands new and hence the Living Forest Ltd was formed.

For the past 9 years we have been serving the South East of England in all aspects of woodland management, from domestic tree surgery through to large estate management

Hedges

Hedges are important both for landscape and conservation, but they also provide barriers and screens from roads and neighbours.
The Living Forest Ltd can undertake the cutting and re shaping of any size hedge and also the planting and re establishment of new hedges.
We also offer hedge laying which is an old fashioned method of making an old hedge stock proof. There are many different regional interpretations of this and we are happy to discuss individual requirements. By sometimes laying a hedge in the correct manor can mean that it is not necessary to fence out stock

Fencing

Fencing The Living Forest Ltd do all types of fencing, including, chestnut cleft post and rail, of which there are several variations, stock fencing, deer fencing, chestnut paling, spile and twist, soft wood close board fencing and metal parkland estate fencing.

All our chestnut fencing we source locally either from our own coppice work or using other local suppliers.

We feel this is important because it helps us to manage coppice woodlands locally.

Woodland Management

Management The Living Forest Ltd undertake all aspects of woodland management. This can include just advice if necessary or a whole package, which can include drawing up of forestry plans for grants, obtaining licences, and undertaking of actual works.

Such as the planting and establishment of new woodlands, the weeding and formative pruning of young plantations, ride management which can include maintenance and construction, the felling and thinning of woodlands and marketing of timber, e.t.c
