Taken for a mug

I bought a Her Ladyship mug as a present for a neighbour while visiting Sherborne on holiday. The neighbour was delighted until she poured some tea in it the first time she used it and it cracked. I rang the shopkeeper who said she'd happily replace it it I brought it back. But I live more than two hours' drive away. She said there was no point in my posting the cracked mug back to her because it would arrive in a hundred pieces "knowing what the Royal Mail's like", and that she couldn't pot one out to me as a replacement because there was no way of posting a mug safely. I told her that I once posted out 200 commemorative mugs for a PR client, with no breakages, and that she, too, could use mug-mailers. But she won't. And as the company doesn't have a website and doesn't use e-mail, that's that. While the mug isn't that expensive, the shopkeeper's attitude has left a nasty taste in my mouth.
