If you are visiting the Hoe, then this is the place to take a load off your tired feet, have a brew and stare out over Plymouth Sound.Nestling snuggly into the side of the Hoe, it isn't pretty, but it's friendly and relaxed and they do great coffee...and chocolate...and breakfasts....I could go on.It is perfectly placed to watch the comings and goings of the harbour, or the Navy when they move or even just guys and gals messing about in boats. It gets very busy in high summer, naturally, but the Staff do all they can to keep it clean and tidy. There are lots of sparrows, who will join you unasked but will leave if you ask politely, or just flap at them. They aren't a nuisance, really. The toilets are an adventure being under the cafe...a bit like going into a cave...but clean. I wouldn't send kids off by themselves as it's a bit spooky and there are way too many 'interesting' aveneues to explore on the way. It's a very relaxing, friendly place and if I could I would breakfast there everyday, rain or shine.

I have a real problem with this place since two summers ago when I went on a Bank Holiday with my family and ordered a couple of light bites including a brie and cranberry panini and a cheese toastie. The toastie was cremated on one side. The cheese in the panini was rubbery and cheddar like. Most definitely not brie. Oh - and we waited about an hour for the food. We were so starving we scoffed it down despite the carnage before us. When I complained I was given short shrift by the owner who had just a couple of teenage girls helping out - on a bank holiday! I will never go there agin as a result, but maybe its better now as the other reviews suggest.
