Best live music venue in Manchester

Service

Quality

Value

Been to many gigs here (some where in the region of 50?!) over the years, it's by far the best venue in Manchester for live music. I'm a fan of Academy 3 - the smallest stage / bar, by far the most intimate. The atmosphere is electric with the right band. Drinks are averagely priced (still cheaper than the M.E.N arena!). The recently built Club Academy is good for acoustic / mellow gigs and to just have a drink. I have seen a metal band in Club Academy but unfortunately it's not really built for mosh pits. Good sound in all four academies.

The Manchester academy is one of the best venues there is around and I've been to quite a few. It has cheap drinks and it's always cheap to get in but the acoustics are really good once you get in and the band comes on stage. It doesn't matter which one you go to whether it be one two or three there all enjoyable. It's also just had its new facelift and that is definitely a bonus. I went to the shockwaves NME rock and roll indie riot tour a couple of years back now and that was one of the most randomist gigs I've ever been to. It went from being all calm and fun to booing the horrors off stage to everyone going mad to the sound of the view. Definitely a place that you must go to!

The Academy is a fantastic venue. I prefer the small gigs to large ones, the atmosphere is just electric. Especially for small unknown bands, I first saw The Wombats at academy 3 when they were still small, and with only die hard fans for company it was immense. Slightly bigger is academy 2 and the largest venue, academy 1. Also there is club academy, the smallest of the 4. Situated in Academy is also a bar, as its part of he Students Union in Manchester. The Academy has a fantastic website (http://www.manchesteracademy.net/) where you can find out exactly when your favurite band is coming to manchester!

The Uni of Manchester academies are just brilliant - cheap drinks, friendly staff, cool funky vibe and intimate gigs! I saw bedouin soundclash last year and there can't have been more than 100 people there - that may not be for some people, but for me it was amazing! Located at the Manchester University Student Union means it is easy to get to and from on public transport and you can easily ask for directions if you get lost. HOWEVER getting there by car is hard - theres not really any parking and oxford road is so busy with buses that waiting outside in a car is tricky too. In regard to disabled access, they have recently published the following statement on their website - "We are delighted to announce that the Academy 1 now has a purpose built first floor viewing gallery and bar which can be accessed by our disabled guests. If you are attending a future show at the Academy 1 please telephone 0161 275 2930 to pre register to access this facility." - pretty handy! They have some great bands playing and tickets can be bought from the venue or online - and you dont have to be a student to get them!!Great range of music as well - id recommend the place!!

I've seen so many bands at the 4 academy's over the years it's become a second home to me! Academy 1 is the big boy, the daddy of the 4, this is where you'll see reasonably big bands that aren't quite big enough for the Apollo or MEN. Academy 2 & 3 tend to host the slightly smaller bands although sometimes you can get some pretty big namers playing there although sometimes these gigs get upgraded to academy 1 if ticket sales go high. Academy 4 is in the basement, also known as Club Academy, only recently opened in the past few years it'll play host to your small bands that have only a little following in the area. There's also academy unsigned where unsigned bands get the chance to play on a big stage in academy 2! Well worth checking out for some unknown talent!

This venue has holded so many bands, theres nearly a band on every night. There is 3 mains academy halls and theres also a fourth one aswell underneath the stairs!Academy 1 is on its own in a separate building which has just been refurbished and looks very posh!Acdemy 2,3 and 4 is all in the same buliding just next door to academy 1.These academys are on oxford road, about a 20min walk from the train station! The 3rd academy is my favourite, really small and the stage is so close, the sound is really good as its so small. The sound used to be very good in academy1 but lately it has been terrible! im just glad that the bands i see are more in the smaller academys!Ticket prices have gone up alot in these places, which isnt great, but its worth every penny to see your fave bands.most of the time they sell out so get your tickets in advance!Parking is very easy! it has its own car park and its only £2, so free around the corner on the streets!

Manchester Academy has 3 venues (only the main 1 of which I have visited). It is amongst the best I have been 2, but that is probably more to do with the bands I have seen there and how drunk I have or have not been (ranging from Blur and Carter USM back in the early 90's to Roots Manuva, AIM and Roni Size more recently). If one of your favourite bands are ever playing there then I suggest that you go! Mixed crowd (again depending on the gig), but it is in the heart of studentville so expect a few of them.
