About

Heads Welcome

Welcome to Branwood Preparatory School, where we offer an outstanding co-educational education to children aged three to eleven. My name is Mrs Kay Higginbottom and I am the Headmistress of this wonderful school.

Branwood is indeed an exceptional educational establishment; ever since our founding in 1928 we have maintained an enviable reputation for preparing our children both for entrance to the finest secondary schools in the region as well as for lifelong success and fulfilment.

We have deeply caring and passionately committed staff who have developed a real rapport with our children and our parent body, and through decades of prudent financial management, supported by our trustees and governors, we are able to offer exceptional facilities whilst maintaining a very modest fee structure.

Please take a moment to explore our site to find out a little more about us. If you're interested in your child joining our school then have a look at our admissions page or alternatively contact my bursar to arrange for a tour around the school, to see the staff and children at work and play, and to further discuss the academic and pastoral needs of your child or children.

Our School

Our School
Now located in Monton, Branwood Prep. School was founded in Eccles, Manchester in 1928. We are an independent, co-educational day preparatory school catering to children between the ages of three and eleven.

All members of our community, staff, governors and trustees, ensure that both pupils and parents receive the very highest standards of education. The pupils are happy, thoughtful and caring towards each other and work very hard to achieve excellent results. Parents are supportive of our school and work closely with staff to ensure the very best for their children.

The School itself is purpose built and offers well equipped classrooms, spacious grounds, an assembly hall/gymnasium, dining hall and kitchen. All our food is prepared on site and a meat or vegetarian option is provided daily. We are fortunate to offer two all weather Astroturf sports pitches, a large playground for the use of the upper school pupils, a dedicated smaller playground for our two Kindergarten classes, a grass lawn and a wildlife area.

The pre-reception building, opened in 1998, is specifically designed for children of this age group. The facility is self contained and has its own garden and enclosed playground. Parents are eligible for the Local Authority grant available for children in the year prior to the statutory age for starting school.

Our children are happy, inquisitive and energetic – they enjoy being children in their educational environment. They learn to be part of their community, to live and work together, to share the traditional values of courtesy and good manners, to respect others, to have confidence, to think for themselves and to stand up for what they believe to be right. As a preparatory school we prepare our children for their lives ahead. The children learn to grasp every opportunity offered to them and they leave Branwood justifiably proud of their school and their achievements.

The heart of the school lies in academic excellence but as part of the educational process and the development of the ‘whole child' we also provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities which are taught or coached by specialist, qualified staff, many of whom have represented their chosen activity at a national level.

Religious knowledge is taught within the school to provide pupils with an understanding of all faiths and worldviews. In keeping with the school's teachings on social, moral, spiritual and cultural life, assemblies are broadly secular in nature but we do take advantage of important festivals and celebrations to help foster understanding of our rich and diverse community.

School opens at 8.00am when children are supervised until registration at 8.35am. Following school we have an after school club with activities, and the facility to complete homework, from 3.30-5.30pm. We also offer a variety of activities during the school holidays.
