A quirky cinema experience

Service

Quality

Value

I absolutely love this place. One of a handful of picturehouses in London, the Brixton Ritzy shows a broad variety of art house, independent and foreign language films, in addition to the bigger blockbusters. More than that though, it's a wonderful place to stop for a drink - there's a bar at the side of the cinema, and a cafe upstairs where you can have a light bite before a film. They have special screenings for those with young children under 12 months ("The Big Scream") as well as autism friendly showings. The main screen, screen one, is my favourite, as it's really old school, with worn red velvet seats.

Cultural centre of Brixton

Service

Quality

Value

The best cinema in London for culturally aware (i.e. non mainstream blockbuster) first run films. Having moved far enough away that it's not local, I am now aware how spoilt for a great film experience I was when I lived nearby. They've gone through a few pricing changes over the years, obviously trying to keep pace with the market, but they still are a great venue, offer a good value and have an excellent bar/restaurant that's hopping most nights. Only complaint there is its too DAMN SMALL!Give this place a go if you're tastes run different to Michael Bay and other action films. Also keep an eye out for special events like preview screenings of "Sunshine" with Q&A with Danny Boyle, or their Sunday morning freebie screenings. It's the cultural centre of Brixton, although that's not too hard to achieve.

Good place to meet friends

It's a great place to meet friends before a film, or before heading out in Brixton. They didn't have any draught lager when I went, so bottles only. Still, good atmosphere, and I'll definitely go back.

Poular South London Cinema

Popular local independent cinema and venue with a lovely cafe (with free wifi). Has a good selection of films though it seems to be verging more towards the mainstream than the arthouse these days. Hosts autism friendly screenings, Silver Screen for elder folk etc The quality of the sound and screenings is pretty good. It is a membership cinema with good discounts (£2 off admission and 20% on food in the cafe).Should pay their staff a decent living wage though.

Nice cafe

This is an independent cinema with a bar, live music, a cafe and table football! A good place to go any time of the day. I've been known to go and just sit in the cafe to do work and drink coffee. On warm sunny days, you can sit outside on the balcony which is lovely. The cafe also does a selection of pizzas and salads. Pretty cheap.

Hello guys,Yesterday I had such a nice evening at the Ritz Picture house where I went with some trustedplaces users to watch a movie called Days of Glory, les Indigènes in French. (I really enjoyed the movie and I definitely recommend it!!!)Then I was really impressed by the projection room. The place is so nice and I want to point the fact that the seats are very comfortable. There is also a bar which is very welcoming where you can enjoy the rest of the evening after a good movie, or just come around to meet some friends. We have been very lucky as we had the chance to have live arabic music yesterday. So guys if you don't know what to do during those rainy evenings, have a look at the program, they have some very interesting movies!!

Best Cinema/ Pub/ Cafe / Music joint in South London

Service

Quality

Value

The Ritzy Picturehouse is on the Brixton Oval, not far from the Victoria Line Tube. Its a great little cinema that shows mainstream and alternate films, has a downstaris bar and an upstairs cafe that often has live music. Kids Matinees, Saturday evening movies and music or Sunday morning coffee and brunch - does it all with flair. Only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that no-one gets 5 stars :)

This is the kind of place where you can read a book on your own or catch up with friends. You can meet arty people, quite left wing.
