I took my MacBook Pro for a repair at Mr Dweeb in Crouch End. They charged £30 for a diagnosis of the problem, then a further £170 to replace a damaged component in the machine. They were unable to tell me the breakdown of this cost (in parts and labour) to provide a formal quote, and just said 'this is how much it costs'. I went ahead with the repair anyway as I needed the machine back in use. They were closed over new year so the repair took over a week. Unfortunately the problem recurred less than a month after receipt of the repaired machine. I was away with work, and by the time I got the machine back to Mr Dweeb the 2 month ('extended warranty') period had lapsed. Out of courtesy they offered a reduced diagnostic fee of £15, but of course could not assure me that the problem would not need further repair at extra cost. A terrible experience. I am now taking the machine to a Mac Store, who whilst perhaps initially more expensive, will be trustworthy and competent to fix a simple problem, unlike than this amateurish, unprofessional racket.
