A Hidden Romance

I was taken to Le Beaujolais on a date with French guy, of course. I love this place, it's so French but they have all these British football scarves as decoration. I love the mugs and ties hanging from the ceiling. Very cozy and intimate. The staff were friendly and more than happy to help you choose any wine, though my date knew what he wanted to order. We ended up chatting to the man sitting beside us about art. We didn't ordered food at the time because we went after dinner so I can't review that.

West end gem

Beaujolais is one of those places in London I wish I'd found earlier. Countless nights spent aimlessly traipsing around the soulless west end looking for a decent spot to have a drink in could have been prevented had I known that just a few paces off Charing Cross road was this place. An authentic feeling French wine bar – sans cheese. (By cheese I mean naf, not the food. They do have cheese, the food, here.) Established in the 70s it's the kind of place you could both bring your mom to and have a mad night out in. It's small – seats about 40 upstairs and has standing room for about the same. The music is bluesy and at times a little loud, but they'll turn it down if you want. It's lively and unpretentious and most people here are regulars. The owners are serious about their wine, but not at all snobby about it. They are happy to help you choose something you like and will take back the stuff you don't. (And should you want a JD instead, that's fine too - they also serve beer and spirits). They serve food upstairs but the real bounty is apparently downstairs in the members-only restaurant. I haven't sampled either (the food upstairs or down) but have tried most of the wines in significant volumes and I can vouch for it. If you want a place with an eclectic buzz that serves a nice bottle with great atmosphere, get on the Picadilly or Northern line and come here. It won't disappoint!

Cosy French Wine Bar

I know I've passed Le Beaujolais a number of times over my years in London, and it's testament to how spoiled we are ion this city that I never went in. I've lived in London for almost 8 years now, and my first glass of wine at at Le Beaujolais was only 6 months ago. That, is a shame, as it's the kind of place I love. Dark, cosy, intimate and selling a quality product at reasonable prices. It's the perfect spot for a hudddle with a friend over a nice bottle of wine. The crowd are the furthest thing from pretentious, this place is the real deal. They sell food, rustic French fare, which I've yet to sample, but I will, and I'll come back and tell you all about it!

The oldest French wine bar in London

Squeeze into this tiny bar just off the Charing Cross Road and suddenly you're in a local bar somewhere in France... from the music to the signing in board for regulars, this place oozes atmosphere and Gallic charm. The menu and wine list are everything you'd expect from a French wine bar, but its the ambience that is the real draw here.
