Property Maintenance Services in London
51 Regent Square
London
E3 3HW
Regent Square is a private residential square in the East End of London. It is managed by Eastways Management Limited on behalf of its shareholders who own the properties. The directors are also owner/residents and are elected at the AGM.
The properties in Regent Square are all leasehold and residents are expected to observe the rules contained in the leases. See Guidelines for Residents.
The Square came into being in the late 1960s when the Greater London Council (GLC) agreed to the development of residential dwellings on the site of 2 small derelict roads between the primary school, St Agnes, and the infants school.
The flats were to be privately built and privately owned - unlike any other development in the area - with the freehold being retained by the GLC.
The final plans consisted of 1- and 2-bedroom flats in 4 blocks all with either a garage or parking bay. The grounds were to be communal with a non-parking area in the centre of the square.
Owners moved in early in the 1970s and a community rapidly developed. Management, maintenance and gardening were undertaken by the resident-owners under the umbrella of a formally constituted company, Eastways Management Limited.
In the 1970s, there was open access through the Square. Security then became an issue so improved lighting and locked pedestrian gates were installed. In 2004 because of the dramatic increase in burglaries, as well as incidents of fly-tipping and other anti-social activities, vehicle security gates were installed.
