- Our Aim
We are award winning London architects and designers, dedicated to the creation of better buildings and places.
We find solutions to the critical questions facing the city today: how might we best build homes in London, what makes our workplaces fit for the 21st century, and how should we reinvigorate our public spaces so that they engage and excite?
Our private residential projects include house extensions, basements and loft conversions at all scales. A rational and pragmatic approach to each commission is combined with a desire to delight, forming spaces and places that bring joy.
Our architects have extensive experience with heritage properties, where there is often a need to balance sensitive refurbishment with carefully considered contemporary extensions. Projects are designed holistically with architecture, landscape, joinery and interiors each interlocking to form a coherent whole.
Our Aim
Our aim is to improve people's lives by reimagining the city in which we work, live and play.
The studio is collaborative, innovative, informed and aspirational. We work at all scales, from bespoke private homes to commercial developments; urban renewal to masterplans. We are an RIBA chartered practice.

As a German developer based in Berlin we were looking for a competent architecture studio for our project. Our research was unsuccessful for a few months. Our project was in the Bermondsey conservation area. We decided to hire and work with AFL because of their competence, reliability and team-oriented work. We engaged AFL after having unsuccessfully tried with two previous architect firms to get our project planned and approved to the standards we required. Having seen the excellent work that AFL did on a house on our street we engaged Ben Ridley as lead architect for our project. This is an extensive renovation of a Victorian house in a conservation area, and includes basement excavation, rear and side extension as well as attic extension. Ben and his team were very thorough in considering all options and successfully managed to prepare a plan which we were very happy with. They prepared an excellent planning application which was approved by Islington Council at the first round! We are very pleased with AFL and look forward to the next stage of our project.
