Leicester is situated in the East Midlands, UK and is an important manufacturing and commercial site. It is also host to its famous markets, the University Of Leicester and De Montfort University. A culturally varied city and one of the UK's 10 largest cities, Leicester has a strong tradition of development and in 1990 was named Britain's first Environment City in recognition of the city's pioneering environmental programmes.
