About Sunderland

Sunderland is a city and port in Tyne And Wear in the North East Of England. Formerly the largest shipbuilding port in the world, Sunderland's last shipyard closed in 1988, giving way to other industries such as car manufacture and the firms which supply that sector. Where the shipyards once stood, new developments such as Sunderland AFC's Stadium Of Light and The National Glass Centre now help to form a modern and ever expanding city. Its university adds to this vibrancy with an influx of students always ready to sample the city's many nightclubs, bars and restaurants.
