Doncaster is a town in South Yorkshire, on the banks of the River Don. A major industrial centre from the 18th to 20th century, Doncaster was often associated with the coal industry which brought population growth and jobs to the area with the River Don and the Don Navigation used to transport it from the area. Modern Doncaster only has a handful of collieries in the area but new industries and commercial enterprises have emerged. Its town centre offers a variety of retail outlets ranging from the traditional markets to shopping centres such as Lakeside Village which houses over 45 outlets under one roof. There is an array of museums and historic buildings in the area that bring in many visitors including Doncaster Museum And Art Gallery and South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum.
