Barnsley is a town in South Yorkshire, England that lies around 12.5 miles north of Sheffield. Barnsley's past lies in it becoming a prosperous market town due to its unique position on the route between Leeds, Wakefield, Sheffield and London. Several industries developed within the town such as glass making, linen weaving and up until fairly recently, coal mining. Modern day Barnsley has a thriving shopping centre that also hosts bars, award winning restaurants, cafes and nightclubs but its industrial heritage is not forgotten with the likes of Elsecar Heritage Centre, Cannon Hall and Victoria Jubilee Museum offering fascinating glimpses into the towns past.
