About Us

The Peat Inn is situated just six miles from St Andrews, the home of golf. The City of Edinburgh and its airport is just one hours drive away and Dundee only 30 minutes by car. A former coaching inn, The Peat Inn was put on the map over three decades ago by Chef Laureate David Wilson and has become renowned for excellent cooking and fine hospitality. The Peat Inn was taken over in June 2006 by Geoffrey Smeddle who continues to ensure the use of the best local and seasonal produce. Here at the Peat Inn, it is not just about the food. It is about the whole dining experience: the warm atmosphere in the restaurant, the extensive wine list on offer and the friendly elegant service you receive. This has all helped to make The Peat Inn one of Joanna Blythman's choices in a list of the top seasonal restaurants in Scotland and also one of the AA'S Top 200 rated hotels. Our accommodation offers eight beautifully appointed suites with bedroom and separate living room uniquely on two levels. Each suite has been individually styled and carefully furnished providing the perfect space for you to relax. DINING:

At the heart of The Peat Inn is the kitchen. From 1972 to 2006, David Wilson's total dedication earned his cooking an international reputation. In June 2006, he handed over the reins to Geoffrey Smeddle, award winning chef and columnist. Under Geoffrey and Katherine's care the restaurant continues to flourish. Three small dining rooms make up the restaurant, providing an intimate setting for lunch or dinner. Each room is also available for private parties if required. Add to this the warm reception lounge with it's deep sofas and open log fire, the restaurant creates an atmosphere which is refined, classic but very friendly and relaxed. From your aperitif upon arrival, to coffee taken either by the fire in winter or in the gardens in summer, you will enjoy every moment of the wonderful cuisine and hospitality at The Peat Inn.

THE RESIDENCE:

The outward appearance of the unpretentious whitewashed inn, just a short drive from St. Andrew's, gives little clue as to what lies beyond the simple exterior. Lovers of carefully prepared food and good wines can enjoy more than just a delicious dinner: the guest suites provide the perfect opportunity for a rather special night away, where the pleasures of the table spill over into a charming over-night setting.
