Missed the last EasyJet plane of the day to take me home from Gatwick (due to wrong advice from NationalRail enquiries).
Was sent to Skybreak to check for next available flight.
The ladies at the counter seemed totally sympathetic with my distress, told me correctly that this had been the last flight of the day, and went on to sell me an Easyjet ticket for 200 Pounds, 160% above the actual price on the internet. My request for advice on accomodation close to the airport was answered with a recommendation for the airport Hilton, which they said with slight regret was 150 pounds per night. When I had come to my senses, I had my wife check from home the actual price that Easyjet.com was asking (118 Pounds), and get me a 55 Pounds Lodge with free airport shuttle 2 miles from LGW. I went back to ask them how they could consciously have added to the burden of an already depressing day like that.
All kindness was gone, ticket was of course non-refundable and everything was my problem.
Coldblooded, cruel, intentional rip-off I would summarize.
