Having earned a remarkable reputation for mouth-watering Italian food and outstanding customer service over the last 15 years, Ristorante Fiume and River Bar underwent a £750,000 refurbishment in 2007, providing this rural area of Tyne and Wear with the type of venue normally found in city centre locations.
The family focused Fiume restaurant opens seven days a week, serving up an array of authentic homemade Italian dishes, while the trendy River Bar underneath is a great place to relax, drink and socialise while enjoying stunning views across the river.
If you fancy a change from the usual routine, a drive down to Fatfield riverside could be just the tonic.
As one of Washington's most picturesque areas, it hasn't changed much over the past 50 years or so, and there are lots of pleasant riverside walks which always somehow seem to lead back to the small cluster of village pubs situated on the river bank. Ristorante Fiume sits above one of these pubs, the River Bar, and offers a typical Italian menu with lots and lots of choice: there's all the traditional pizza and pasta favourites, as well as a good selection of meat and fish dishes, salads and house specials.
