During renovation work in 2008, we discovered some damp on an interior wall. We were sold a solution by Multiguard Solutions UK Ltd (formerly Hightex Coatings Ltd) of Northampton which included installation of stone impregnated concrete lintels above the windows, re pointing and waterproof coating with some magical substance that is supposed to stop water penetration through the wall. After the first good downpour, we noticed water appearing above all windows. Bob Blume, the 'director' sent his boys round to 'have a look' and the end result of their remedial work was aptly described by another builder who I asked for a second opinion as "an act of butchery on your home". Their remedial work failed to stop the water ingress above the windows and during torrential rain we collected half pint of rainwater that had run down the inside wall. Bob is more than happy to take your money...he will come round personally for payment as soon as the job is finished. (And I mean as soon as the job is finished... he was very insistent that he could come round to collect payment even though we were entertaining guests at the time and told him it wasn't convenient). He seems to have some sort of tax scam on the go too as he was most put out that we had made the final cheque out to his limited company and asked us to write another cheque omitting the 'Ltd' from the Payee line! He his also happy to try and take more of your money if he can. When we were quoted for the lintels we were 'sold' stone impregnated ones, to keep in with the appearance of the house (and because I didn't want to keep painting them every couple of years), but Bob 'assured' us that the stone ones cost more and that we had only been quoted for plain concrete ones, and so added the 'extra' onto the bill. Also when the final bill was due, an extra £325 appeared on the outstanding amount. When I queried this, Bob said that it was "cos the work cost more than he thought it would". I refused to pay the extra amount as the price I was paying was the price 'quoted' and a legally binding contract as far as I was concerned. Bob capitulated, but I wonder how many other people he has stitched up with this 'work cost more scam'? Also he managed to charge us VAT twice. The original quote was for £3120 + VAT (£3666.) Then the final invoice was for £3666 + VAT !!! So far in response to my complaints about the poor workmanship, damaged plasterwork and floor work (accompanied by photographs) caused by poor workmanship, Bob's initial response has been to send his builders round to "see what they are moaning about". Interestingly enough, nearly three years later and after Bob's 7th and final attempt at remedial work, he replaced the lintels with painted concrete ones which are of lesser quality that the stone impregnated ones that he originally charged us more for. Also it is worth noting that I gave Bob an ultimatum that this was to be his final attempt at remedial work and should it fail then he would reimburse my invoice amount in full, to which he agreed. Subsequently, his work failed and now Bob has reneged on his agreement. (Not really unexpected) Be aware that if you lodge a complaint with him then you must incur additional cost of recorded delivery for your correspondance. He won't respond to normal mail and is conveniently out of the office if you phone. Neither will he return your calls... Anyone thinking of having any building work done should steer well clear of this cowboy. If a picture speaks a thousand words, these speak for themselves! http://s278.photobucket.com/albums/k...ghtexcoatings/
