Bolton Indians Sports Club (Now branded BISC but originally called âBolton Indians Cricket Clubâ) first became based in our present site in Hacken Lane in 1985. In those days, the area had been just a patch of waste ground.
Over the months/years, a group of Indian Cricket players worked tirelessly on the site, helping to make it what it is today. The club was never exclusively for Indian players and over time it attracted members from a number of various nationalities. A recent grant from the Big Lottery Fund helped build the new sports hall. As a result of this BISC now has a multi-use, community friendly facility.
This new development encouraged the club to change the name of BICC to the âBolton Indians Sports Club.â This made the club more attractive, approachable and accessible to the entire community. Although the club maintained the âBolton Indiansâ for traditional reasons, it is now a fully inclusive club with over 50% of the sports hall users being from all nationalities.
The BISC now offers a wide range of sports and activities for people of all ages and abilities. It very much wants to contribute in the development of the health and wellbeing of the local community. Many of young peoples ambitions are to aspire to be involved in future international sports teams or events such as the London Olympics of 2012.
