Foam Concrete Ltd....

Foam concrete is cement bonded material manufactured by blending a very fluid cement paste and then injecting stable, pre-formed foam into the slurry. The volume of slurry to foam dictates the density of the foam concrete. The physical characteristics of foam concrete are determined by various mix designs. These may include the use of Portland Cement (CEM1) either on its own or in combination with a percentage of Pulverised Fly Ash, limestone dust or sand. Together with a pre-determined volume of entrained air, this slurry becomes fresh foam concrete, which has the appearance of a light grey mousse or milk-shake. The entrained air is produced using protein-based foaming agent, PROVOTON.

Foam concrete is a viable solution for reducing loading on burden soil and in its hardened state is less susceptible to differential settlement. Foam concrete pumps easily over long distances under relatively low pressure. For distances over 1000 metres - such as tunnel backfill, slurry is pumped through the pipeline and the pre-formed foam is injected near the point of placement.

Foam concrete may be designed to specific strengths in order to allow for any future removal that may be required during maintenance of utilities or services buried within the concrete. Sometimes excavations of other trench or void-fill products can be susceptible to unpredictable gains in strength due to delivery and production methods, making it difficult to remove cleanly and quickly. Foam concrete on the other hand is produced on site, to exact requirements and can be easily excavated using common construction tools.
