The Old House

The Old House is a spacious family run private hotel standing in its own half acre of mature grounds. It is a grade II* listed building of special architectural and historical interest, the oldest part having been built in the second half of the sixteenth century.
There are many interesting features, the first floor was originally jetted but is now underbuilt. There is also a fine example of an octagonal tudor chimney. A previous owner of the house was the famous Dr. Samuel Dale, friend and biographer of the naturalist John Ray.

Bradford Street has 65 timber framed houses, a couple dating from the thirteenth century. The street is identified with the woollen trade and the wealthy wool merchants. The word Bocking was used to describe a distinct type of cloth.
