Middlesbrough is a town in the traditional county of Yorkshire, in the North East of England. Nestling on the banks of the River Tees, the town is dominated by the striking Transporter Bridge which spans the Tees between Middlesbrough and Port Clarence, giving an insight into the towns rich heritage of bridge building with steel from the Dorman Long steelworks being used on the Tyne Bridge, Sydney Harbour Bridge and Middlesbrough's Newport Bridge. With the demise of the traditional industries of shipbuilding, mining, chemical production and steel production (which is still made locally but on a lesser scale), Middlesbrough has embraced new industries such as manufacturing and customer service centres, while change in the town centre has come with the construction of pedestrianised shopping areas and bars, cafes and restaurants that attract throngs of shoppers and night time revellers alike.
