Donny s First Shoot
Well here we go the first blog from Michael Evans Photography …. Autumn arrived with its soft low sunlight on the beautiful colours of the leaves on the trees as they changed from green to glorious yellows, oranges, reds and all shades in between. Perfect timing for a shoot outdoors with horses and luckily we are based just 2 miles from Chester city centre by the river Dee and surrounded by fields, trees and, yes, horses. Jo Siddorn gave Mike the opportunity to photograph her training her 17hd Belgium Warmblood called Donatus by Turbo (stable name Donny) in her supersized schooling ménage. Jo who has a BA Hons in Equine & Business Management runs Equine Services at Thornleigh Park Farm after completing a year as Head Girl with Lucinda and Clayton Fredericks.Mike has just upgraded his digital camera equipment with the addition of the flagship Nikon D3S which has outstanding low light level performance. An extra two, wide aperture zoom lenses further enhance his ability to capture action in poorly lit situations which was just as well because the sun disappeared as soon as Donny came out of his stable. The new camera can also record high definition video and Mike is looking forward to experimenting with this as soon as he can fit in the time.Donny only showed one moment of surprise when he saw a large man with a camera in his usual work place and then settled to a slow build up of new experiences. Mike’s years of experience with horses enabled him to gently introduce new sounds and sights to Donny leading up to the use of flash on camera firing at 9 frames per second.Mike intends to build up Donny’s confidence so that he can use multiple separate flash guns to light Donny from all sides at once. As soon as Donny is happy with a number of flashing lights surrounding him then Mike will introduce coloured filters to add different effects and more drama to the photographs.Follow Donny’s further training in our next blogs as he does dressage, show jumping and eventing. Photos of Donny's First Shoot will soon be up on our website – www.michaelevansphotography.co.uk
