Pattern imprinted concrete has been in the uk for about 25 years. It is long lasting, hardwearing, it won't sink, it's weed free and virtually maintenance free. If looked after it will not fade and will repell oil and and anything else thst would cause unsightly stains on flags, tarmac or block paving.
In brief we remove your existing driveway, we normally dig down 8 inches or 200 mm, we then put in 4 inches or 100mm mot 1 hard core exactly what is used on the roads. The concrete comes next at least 100mm of "air entrained" (frost resistant) and fibre re-enforced. this is then coloured and patterned on the same day. Two days to hardern completly, then it is washed off. left to dry and then sealed. please note installation times vary with size of job and weather conditions.
There are litterally hundreds of pattern and colour combinations.
The colour is allways two tone, the base colour and the antique release agent. The colour hardener is floated into the concrete, the release agent is a dust which is then dusted on top. The pattern is then added. This is stamped in with a rubberised mat. as the release agent is removed once the concrete is set. The release agents colour remains in the deepest parts of the imprint.
When choosing your pattern and colour it is often easier to start with the pattern you like first the colour is then often easier as some patterns suit colours more naturally. Try not to match the colour of you house as a contrast is usually better. Remember there are no rights and wrongs.
