About Flowerworld at Wards the Florist

Flowerworld is a trading Style of Wards the Florist. Wards the Florist is a family partnership, which was started in 1903. The Managing Partner of Wards the Florist is David Bough and he is the fourth generation of the family running the business. Wards the Florist was one of the founder members of Interflora in the UK.

Investors in People

In September 1999 Wards the Florist became the first retail florist in York and North Yorkshire to achieve Investors in People accreditation, the award for commitment to putting the training and development of staff at the top of the priority list. This confirmed our commitment to the continual training and development of every member of our staff and identified that each member of our staff was committed to the future success of our company

Qualified Employees

In January 1997, through negotiation with the North Yorkshire Trade and Enterprise Council and our local Horticultural College at Askham Bryan, Wards the Florist was accepted to run the floristry Modern Apprentice (MA) qualification in-house. We have our own internal trainers and assessors, which allows all of our employees to be able to enjoy the benefits of "on the job training". Our under 25's all work towards the Modern Apprenticeship with the remaining staff holding at least the requisite Interflora qualifications covering their role in the business. All of our employees are contracted to achieve a minimum of NVQ Level 2 in their respective positions.
