Avondale Guest House is a charming mid terraced Victorian home dating back to the late 19th Century, which has been lovingly restored to maintain its individual character and warmth. Owned and managed by Carole Kaleda, guests are made to feel very welcome. The rooms are individually decorated, warm, cosy and very comfortable, guests can enjoy some of the original features that remain a central theme to the interior of the house. Fresh flowers, many pictures by local artists and lots of other personal touches make Avondale Guest House the perfect place to relax and unwind after a days sightseeing, a real home from home. Little ones are welcomed to the attic family room by an adorable fluffy toy puppy called Spike who can't wait to be friends with all the little boys and girls who will give him a big cuddle! There is a cot and high chair available if required. There is a wealth of visitor information and guide books available to the guests, I am delighted to provide further information and advice on ?where to go? and ?what to see? in York and the surrounding areas. All the rooms have en-suite bathroom facilities, alarm clocks, remote TV and CD stereos, so don't forget to pack your favourites CDs! You will find all you need from a range of beverages on your hospitality tray, I will provide wine glasses and even cool your wine for you! Directions? Avondale Guest House is situated on the South side of the city, a few hundred metres from the ancient city walls. The 7 minute walk to the City Centre and attractions passes restaurants, shops, and wonderful views of the City from Skeldergate Bridge. Directions by Train/Bus York City Centre is mostly pedestrianised, so why not consider the train or coach services available from most parts of Britain. Trains from London take about 2 hours and from Edinburgh about 2 1/2 hours. The walk from the train station to 'Avondale' As you come out of the train station turn right and walk over the bridge, follow the road round and go up a slight hill to the traffic lights. Cross straight over the lights and walk down Nunnery Lane (the ancient city wall will be on your left). Stay on the pavement to the right hand side of the road as the road splits at the bottom. As you reach the end of Nunnery Lane turn right and walk past the shops, keep going straight and cross at the lights. Walk a little further and just past the bus stop the Avondale is on your right. Directions by Car From the South From the A1(M) join the A64 leaving to join the A1036 York(West). Carry straight on, passing the racecourse on the right, as you reach the top of the hill go through the lights. At the next set of lights, turn right into Scarcroft Road, when you reach the end, turn right at the lights and Avondale House is just a few yards up the hill on the right. From the North A1 onto A59, follow straight ahead through the suburbs until you see the Iron Bridge, cross the bridge and turn right immediately after you have crossed. Follow the road round staying to the left at the lights, turn left and then move over to the furthest right hand lane to turn right into Scarcroft Road, when you reach the end, turn right at the lights and Avondale House is just a few yards up the hill on the right.
